Week 5- Presentations

During week five of Digital Pedgagoies unit, we looked at presenting the learning content to students in a very effective technique for our contemporary learners. So what is the purpose of a presentation anyway? As educators we can use presentation platforms like Press, Powerpoint, Googleslides, Canva, Adobe Spark and the list goes on. By using these platforms for our students we will help persuade, inform, inspire, and entertain our content through learning off a presentation.

The Platform Prezi is my favourite as I can customise, interact, add impact, use designed templates, persuade and collaborate all off the one online source. Prezi helps to emphasise the beginning, middle and end, as the information is arranged spatially; additionally, the transitions and zoom feature help to visually explain how the different points and ideas relate to one another.

Below are some screenshots I have taken from a students perspective of Prezi.

As you can see Prezi offers a lot of templates for the basic package, on the side it also offers Prezi video/ design and present. Within these features it can show the students examples and tutorials on how to create their very own presentation or us as educators have our own packages on how to create engaging presentations for students based off examples. Prezi offers editing tools like; symbols and shapes, voice-overs, background music, images, videos, PDF files, Youtube files, multi-frame layouts and single-frame layouts. With the multi and single-frame layout students can add in timelines, Venn diagrams, flow charts, comparisons and hierarchy's and more!

PREZI in a HPE classroom complying with the SAMR model

Substitution; Educator uses Prezi to present the class with notes and information about a particular topic such as nutrition in athletes for students to copy down and complete questions about the following content in the lesson.

Augmentation: The teacher also uses press to present the class an assessment task sheet. The Prezi includes the marking criteria and details on specific task requirements. The educators then uploads Prezi to the class wiki so students can access at home to work on the assessment. Students are able to research sports and how/ why athletes fuel their bodies with such nutritious foods and have to make their own Prezi presentation from the seeing the feature their teacher adding on displaying their assessment and notes.

Modification: Students collaborate to present an evaluation and recommendation to the class detailing links between the theoretical concepts in nutrition for athletes and the practical implementations they as students could add to their healthy diets to help in their sports classes and extracurricular sports. The teacher assists in providing some background knowledge on task and tips on how the students can conduct their research. The students use frames to document the process of research and findings. The students can then share their Prati on their class Wiki or individual blogs.

Redefinition: Students create a presentation and pitch an innovative idea to a board of peers and the teacher. The presentation could be a business idea, ways to promote health among the students, an analysis of a skill or a research project. Along with their proposals, methodologies and research on healthy diets in athletes, students can choose to embed their Prezi into a larger website and annotate, evaluate and reflect on their findings. The Prezi is shared in a public domain so this will allow industry professionals, other teachers and students to access and provide feedback to the student to create a learning network.

Please view the short Youtube video above to grasp a deeper understanding on how Prezi needs to be embedded in your classroom today!

Students can also collaborate to create a group presentation that uses other digital platforms embedded into the Prezi to enhance the effectiveness of their presentation. They can conduct research, testing and surveying to document the progress on Prezi. The Prezi can be embedded/ posted to the class wiki or website for other students to learn from each other. Prezi is a great tool to use in the classroom for interactive direct instruction teaching as well as creative multi-modal assessment tools for students. Prezi is a safe and effective tool for your students as you as an educator can only invite students to see content and your students can keep their presentations private from the public, the students just need parent consent to use it out side of school hours.

  1. Hi Emma

Awesome blog, I was well informed. Some things I really liked were the screenshots youve taken to give us an overview of what prezi looks like and your ideas in the SAMR model, redefinition looks great!

Could you have gone into more depth about safety protocols and privacy? And why we might want to be safe when using prezi?

Overall I think this is a successful reflection and you have done well. Personal opinion: more color !

    Thanks
    Addison
